BCCI President Pays a Courtesy Call on the Finance Minister

Mr. Tandin Wangchuk, who was recently elected as the President of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Finance Minister, Lyonpo Namgay Tshering at Tashichho-Dzong, Thimphu on 20 Sept 2021.

While congratulating Mr. Wangchuk on his election as the BCCI President, Lyonpo shared about different financing windows that the Royal Government has introduced in the recent to broaden the private sector’s access to finances. National Credit Guarantee Scheme (NCGS) is one such financing platform established for the private sector. He also conveyed about the efforts being put in by the Ministry on the land valuation and loan eligibility ratio against pledged properties. He said that the banks shall be advised to adopt same valuation system for lands and also consider loans against such properties at 1:1 ratio.

Lyonpo highlighted about the importance of the Chamber as a central voice for the private sector and a forum for the Government to consult & rope in the feedback of the private sector. He stressed that the BCCI must position itself as an attractive institution in terms of its professionalism in representing the Bhutanese private sector.

The BCCI President, while thanking Lyonpo for the wisdom shared, underlined two core issues that the BCCI needs to place its priority and these issues are the legal statute for the Chamber and its long-term financial sustainability and shared the enthusiasm of the current team of elected office bearers of the BCCI to pursue on these issues.

While conveying the goodwill and appreciation of the BCCI to the Ministry for its continued support to the Chamber, the President solicited for Lyonpo’s support in addressing these two core issues.
