The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C), College of Science and Technology (CST), a joint initiative of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR), and Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at CST, Phuentsholing, marking an important step towards strengthening collaboration between academia and the private sector in advancing Bhutanโs solar energy ecosystem.
The partnership comes at an important time as Bhutan works towards expanding renewable energy and advancing its national solar ambitions, while creating new opportunities for private sector participation, entrepreneurship, innovation, and green economic growth.
Through this collaboration, BCCI will complement STAR-Cโs technical expertise by connecting the private sector with relevant opportunities, expertise, institutions, and resources, while strengthening meaningful engagement between academia and industry.
BCCI will also play an important advocacy role by undertaking research and developing evidence-based policy recommendations to help identify and address regulatory, capacity, market, and other challenges faced by businesses in the solar and renewable energy sector. This will help ensure that private sector experiences and perspectives are effectively reflected in relevant policy and programme development.
The partnership is expected to contribute towards building a stronger, more competitive, and enabling solar ecosystem in Bhutan, while supporting the countryโs broader aspirations for sustainable economic transformation and a green economy.
The programme brought together dignitaries and representatives from BCCI, CST, STAR-C, the International Solar Alliance (ISA), and private solar sector players, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening academiaโindustry collaboration and advancing Bhutanโs solar energy ecosystem.
