BCCI President’s Courtesy Call on the Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo

The newly elected President of the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), Mr. Tandin Wangchuk made a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo, H.E. Lyonpo Loknath Sharma at the Ministry of Economic Affairs on 15 September 2021. The BCCI President, while thanking the Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo for his unconditional support to the BCCI and the private sector, apprised and reitereated on the importance of having the Chambers legal statute and financial sustainability.

Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo while congratulating the President on his election, informed that the Chamber’s legal status could be processed through the Trade and Investment Bill (TIB) by including a Chapter on BCCI, which is already under process. However this shall depend on the acceptance of the TIB for discussion in the upcoming parliment. Lyonpo also expressed on having a clear goal, sustainability plan and way forward for the Chamber and was pleased to know that the Chamber was already working on its strategic plans. His Excellency also highlighted on building institutional tie-ups with the Chambers and other trade bodies in the neighboring states of India and Bangladesh for business tie ups and to ease out trading problems faced by the private sector. Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo urged BCCI to expedite in signing APA.

On the request of the BCCI President for gradual opening up of the entertainment sector, Lyonpo informed that the discussion on reopening of some of the entertainment sectors in the low risk areas is being discussed for consideration.
